The sun trail connects the villages Lutago (trail nr. 23) and St. Jakob (trail nr. 12) on a breathtaking altitude of 1000 up to 1450 meters. In both directions the path is easy to walk. The trail crosses the streams Schwarzbach, Rotbach, Trippach, Frankbach, Keilbach and Wollbach. You will be impressed by the masses of water, released from glaciers of the Zillertaler Alps, crashing into the valley.

In the past the trail was a meeting place for smugglers, poachers and young men on the way to their beloved women. Often disputes and fights arose. Grocers and beggars went from farm to farm in order to trade their goods or ask for alms.
The journey on the sun trail will lead you to stunning natural sights, such as the Schwarzbach, Trippach, Frankbach and the Platterwand.

Monuments: The numerous farms along the path are precious testimonies of South Tyrol’s hard but various past.

Many chapels were built in return for granted security or promises. Now, as in the past, they serve as a place for prayer and reflection.
According to the chronicle, in 1878 a giant mudslide buried the whole smelting plant of the copper mine in Prettau.

You can reach the sun trail from the valley. Various paths start near the bus stops. In the past they were used to to go to church, school or for the transportation of goods.
